This is our truth, tell us yours
This decision of Texan officials to ban tampons from the public gallery at meetings of their Senate is incomprehensibly brilliant. Brilliant, because it shines a light into the darker recesses of the bureaucratic mind, and incomprehensible because it is so nakedly counter-productive.
It’s not unique to Texas though. The sheer counter productive stupidity of local officials when faced with dissent or protest is well known this side of the pond too – like this fine example.
Trying to police out dissent is a fine, in unintentional way of drawing attention to the dissent. Ask Walter Wolfgang, an unattractive and unrealistic left over from the cold war who was transformed into an unlikely and unlikeable folk hero by being ejected from a Labour Part conference. Sometimes, it’s more sensible to accept that a tampon is just a tampon.
