Helpless Ed and tuition fees

As I write Ed Miliband is announcing Labour’s plans to cut university tuition fees.

It is common ground amongst the chatterati that Ed is an inept and ineffectual leader.

Yet here he is, floating a populist policy that will skewer the LibDems on their broken promises of 2010, and skewer George Osborne on the hopelessly optimistic promises he made about how students could afford to repay the loans they use to pay their fees.

Inept and ineffectual, obviously.

The funniest part is watching Vince Cable flailing around attacking the policy – as if the LibDem promise of 2010 was a fully-costed proposal they were definitely going to carry out after the election (and that’s before we get to Cable’s Chuckle Brothers act with David Willetts as they tried to defend the £9K fees system).
