You don’t have to be trans to be an ally against transphobia | Owen Jones | Comment is free | The Guardian

According to Owen Jones, Will Young’s video about trans suffering has its flaws, but social change always entails building alliances. It’s been a good week in the Guardian for people debating trans issues; you have Jones, and you have Jack Monroe talking about the same issue from their perspective.

Jem covered the issue of being an ally, touched on by Owen Jones, here. Her view is from her perspective, as a sex worker, but you can generalize from the specific. I’ll stick with my own view, which I think is congruent with Jem’s. Being an ally is not about what you call yourself in the Gurdian, it’s about what you do. If other people recognise you are an ally, then you are one. What you think you are is irrelevant.
