Sometimes, it's just a cigar

This is our truth, tell us yours

Alternate lives

Last night as I drove home from having some fun with mates, Jem and I talked about anonymity and the internet, and the way anonymity can be used to trial and test different ways of being.

This morning I found this article on the Guardian website. It’s a story as old as the internet; I remember encountering someone who pulled the same stunts on an MSN group (remember them?) in about 2000.

The fact that the interweb can be used by bad guys as well as good guys doesn’t mean we should ban anonymity; that makes no moresense than banning cars because some are used for getaways by bank robbers.
